Outside there is snow on the ground and the weather report is predicting more snow tonight as well as more snow next week. Because of the snow and occasional ice and sleet I have been stuck inside this house since 12/30/2010. I have gone through the flu, or something pretty close to it, and it is looking like I am not going to be able to get out until Spring officially gets sprung. Cabin fever? I has it.
Recently in the mail I received the Burpee Seed Catalog and I haven’t even cracked it open yet. The thought of seeing all the green and bright-colored flowers and all of that sunshine could just shove me over the edge into Spring and Summer insanity! Luckily there are green plants here in the house. I don’t know what they are, and, at this point, I don’t care. They are green and alive and growing.
Growing is the operative word here. This Spring I am hope to have one the biggest container gardens I have ever had. Along with tomatoes I am planning on green beans, onions, herbs (especially cilantro), and just possibly some beautiful chillies. I’m thinking also of flowers to attract bees and humming birds, although one of my sisters suggests a bird feeder I can reach to refill and can see the birds when the come to eat.
Not going over-board with the idea for seeds and ideas of what I’d like to plant is difficult at the moment. Looking outside to see nothing but white and gray skies makes me long for the warmth of summer and the greenery of fully leafed trees like little else can. Being able to sit on the front porch surrounded by blooming plants and bushes seems like a million years away now. Patience I tell myself. Patience. The snow won’t last forever. It just feels that way.
