Have been trying to settle in to write for a good portion of the day and just haven’t been able to do so. The ideas are there, and probably the words, but today is one of those days where everything that could possibly be distracting genuinely is distracting from Facebook and Twitter to wanting something to read very badly that isn’t my work. This isn’t helping me at all since the deadline is for August 1. Already this is May 2. Time is slipping away and the words just aren’t going down on the page.
Part of this is nerves because this is a book. This is MY book going out into the scary world being considered and possibly rejected. More importantly – it could be accepted. It is far scarier if it is accepted than being rejected because a lot of my stuff has been rejected. Another part of what is going on is the events of the last few hours with Osama Bin Laden‘s death.
It is sad to see Americans celebrating the death of another human being. I can understand why they are celebrating, especially at Ground Zero in New York. At the same time it makes me sad because, although his death does mean a big blow to terrorism was struck, it does not mean terrorism is going to end with his death. My pride in America has also grown because we have a President who has finally been able to stand behind his words and get the man he said he would get. This hasn’t happened since President Nixon or President Reagan really although the common people still look at President Obama still as “just a black man who managed to steal the Presidency” for some reason. Why is it so hard for people to see WE voted him in because we need a change and we are going to vote him in for a second term? President Obama isn’t the problem with this nation by and large – it is the bigoted people who can’t see any of the good he has done. Instead, they are fighting against him and “the machine” of “big government” when that is a cover for so many things they refuse to face in themselves.
There is turmoil going on inside making it very difficult to write different kinds of turmoil.
I agree, it’s unusual, probably in the future …
